Every month or so I run a box of old parts down to the Bike Kitchen for some upcycling, taking what would be metal recycling at the shop and bringing it down there for re-use. On my last trip I ran into an old acquaintance, Rafi, and got into a pretty good talk about the state of the bike industry today and the bike scene here in San Francisco. I was surprised to find out that he is hand building frames here in the Mission, bringing craft and community almost literally to our front door.
It's inspiring to talk to Rafi about his vision, and to see someone pursue a passion so earnestly. Rafi came by the shop and I took some quick photographs of one of his bikes just to show an example. If you are interested in learning more about his philosophy or building, or would just like to check out more pictures of pretty bikes, head over to his shop site or drop him a line and visit him in person at his studio.
