This is one of my favorite cooperative principles. Cooperative Principles, you ask? The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) defines co-operative principles as "guidelines by which co-operatives put their values into practice." But the history is much deeper, extending to what many folks call the original cooperative The Rochdale Pioneers. Which started in 1844 under the oppression and harsh labor conditions of the British industrial revolution. But I digress...
Web Collective, a worker coop based in Seattle, is in need of business, and while I don't usually push non-bike related things on this blog, its been a while since we've posted AND, BDB is a worker cooperative too. Click on the icon below to check out the web collective:
Web Collective develops "software for sustainability." In their words: "Web Collective helps forward-thinking organizations achieve their sustainability missions by creating services that deepen audience engagement. With years of experience harnessing the power of technology to achieve heart-felt goals, we’d like to put our passion and talents to work for you."
Web Collective is also a recognized "B Corporation." "Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corps are unlike traditional businesses because they:
- Meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards;
- Meet higher legal accountability standards;
- Build business constituency for good business"
That's pretty rad! Stay tuned, I hope to post a blog on all 7 cooperative principles between now and 2012. 2012 was declared the year of the coop by the United Nations.
